Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has urged his peers to show Mel Gibson support.
According to E! Online, Downey decided to take the stage to defend Gibson after Gibson presented him with an award honoring his work.
"Unless you are without sin—and if you are, you are in the wrong f---king industry—you should forgive him and let him work again," Downey said.
Downey recalled when Gibson once offered him a role in Air America during a time when Downey was battling issues of his own. Since then, Downey has credited Gibson for helping him turn his life around.
As Reuters reports, Downey chose Gibson to present the award, in part, to help restore Gibson's reputation.
"I urge you to forgive my friend his trespasses," Downey said. "Allow him to pursue this art without shame."
Gibson has been in hot waters since being accused of anti-Semitism. News of his involvement in a film regarding Jewish legendary figure Judah Maccabee have only incited more anger from the Jewish community.
