Robert Pattinson Breaking Free From 'Twilight'
Robert Pattinson, known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, is taking baby steps to break away from being typecast. He stars as another brooding and emotional young man, albeit one who doesn't bite humans, in Remember Me. The film is set to be released March 12.
Pattinson was drawn to this role because it felt unlike the typical teen film. From MTV:
"I was trying to remember all the little things I'd read, and this was perfect, and it didn't need any real prep time or anything. There was something different about it. It didn't fit into a typical teen movie, and it seemed quite realistic."
Some might worry that the role of an emotionally distraught young man is too similar to Edward Cullen, but Pattinson insists that he is taking small steps toward other things and is not being calculative about his role choices.
His role in Remember Me is quite intense. There's a scene when he becomes infuriated in a classroom alongside a young actress. The acting was initially so intense that the child ran out of the classroom. Parts of the scene were later cut out.
Pattinson was able to relate to the intensity of the role because when he was younger, he was beaten up because he liked to behave like an actor.
