Rock Band Is a Sensation

The gaming industry may revolutionize how consumers receive music.

TGDaily reports that in a little over a few months, two million users have downloaded songs from the game "Rock Band."

"Rock Band" is a Playstation 3 and Xbox videogame released November 30, 2007. A cool feature of the software is that it allows users to download additional music from the game for $2 per song. "Rock Band" is the fist game of its kind to incorporate new music for download every week.

MTV Games, which publishes "Rock Band," stated that the most popular download was a three-song bundle of tracks from Metallica.

As the music industry is amidst reinventing its business model, the gaming industry could serve as a launching pad for "testing the consumers' desire for more gameplay around popular music," as stated by Van Toffler, the President of MTV's Music, Logo and Films group.
