Rock Star: Supernova Recap

Carli Thorkelson
With only four remaining contestants, the rockers sing two songs each.

Before the four sing, we find out Ryan has won the Verizon contest to come back and perform. He sings his original "Back of your Car." While he has one of the better originals, I still can't stand to watch him. Like Toby, he also wins a new Honda Element. We next get a small recap of how each rocker has made it to the final four. With all of that out of the way, it's time for the performances.

Toby: "Karma Police" by Radiohead and "Throw it Away"

He does a good job with the Radiohead tune, but his original is far superior. It's always a good thing when the crowd is into your performance and they always like Toby's original. Even after hearing it three times. For his original, Toby has Magni play guitar and tells everyone to pretend they're drunk. The best part of this performance is that he finally does not go into the crowd, which I appreciate. At one point, he writes "EVS" on the back of Magni's head in black marker. Dave says it was a killer set. Gilby thinks he got lost in the melody in the beginning of "Karma Police." Jason says it was the most energetic performance of the season. After those comments, I think Lukas has it in the bag. Maybe they're just messing with my head.

Lukas: "Fix You" by Coldplay and "Headspin"

I've decided no one can hit the high notes Chris Martin does, at least not a guy. Lukas has come the closest though. It starts off slow, but he kicks it up in the middle and does his usual strut around the stage. This is the third or fourth time we've heard his original, so I was glad he decided to change it up and do an acoustic version. The only problem is that I think I liked the intense fast version more. Oh sweet, Paula Abdul is in the audience...who cares? Dave has wondered the entire season if he could listen to Lukas for two hours and now has decided that he can and would even buy a ticket to do so. Tommy says, "Good boy." Gilby is glad he's willing to take a chance and do something new. We don't get to hear a comment from Jason. My theory is that Gilby and Tommy are overruling what Jason wants and will pick Lukas in the end.

Dilana: "Roxanne" by The Police and "Supersoul"

Wow, this starts off awesome. No instruments, just her voice and the band comes in later. Dilana might be back, folks. She looks gorgeous, too. The boys come onstage and echo the chorus behind her. I only wish the song would have picked up in the end. Great performance though. Afterward, she tells the audience to thank "her boyfriends." I always say this original of hers isn't very good, but for some reason it's always stuck in my head. Hey, her leg sure healed quickly! She kicks her leg up at least five times, and each time I can see her underwear. I guess I should be thankful she's wearing any. Dilana takes where Toby left off and goes through the audience, including up to Paula Abdul. Dave says it's nice to see her back. Tommy says it's beautiful to watch her perform. Jason wants to give matching outfits for the boys and have Lukas work on choreography. Gilby can't wait to see how tomorrow turns out. Well those were interesting comments, especially since some of them had nothing to do with Dilana.

Magni: "Hush" by Deep Purple and "When the Time Comes"

Oh, I love this song. It's in "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Although, it doesn't sound this pop in the movie. Note to self: Tell Magni not to try and sing high notes. Magni has, by far, the least memorable original song of the group remaining. I have never found myself singing his song after the show's over. It's not a bad song; it's just not memorable. Dave says "Deep Purple" was really exciting. Tommy agrees with me and says he can't remember Magni's original. Jason says he likes the original, but again it's not as memorable as some of the other tracks. Gilby says he did a great job.

Final Predictions:

First to leave the night: Magni

Third: Dilana

Runner up: Toby

Winner: Lukas
