Last night (Wednesday) New York's Rockefeller Center welcomed in the holiday season with the lighting of its Christmas tree.
Standing at 84 feet, the tree is decorated in bulbs - all green. The green lights represent energy-saving and "going green", as they are energy-saving light bulbs. A little before 9 p.m., Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Radio City Rockettes helped each other flip the light switch, making the tree brighten up the New York City skyline more than it already was. Performances leading up to the lighting included Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Sean Kingston, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Natasha Bedingfield and High School Musical 2 star Ashley Tisdale.
The tree is about 60 years-old and is covered in wires five miles long, with 30,000 multi-colored lights (including green). The star topping is Swarovski - it has a diameter of 10 feet, with 25,000 crystals.
