A-Rod's Wife: Split Caused by "Extramarital Affairs"
After a week of rumors that Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was romantically linked to pop star Madonna, Rodriguez's wife filed for divorce in Miami, Monday, citing her husband's extramarital affairs among the reasons for their split.
According to AP News, Cynthia Rodriguez's petition for dissolution of marriage was filed in the family division of Miami-Dade County Circuit Court and states that, "The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct."
Last week the tabloids dished out story after story about a possible love affair between 49-year-old Madonna, who is rumored to be having her own marital issues, and the major league baseball player. Us Weekly reported secret meetings between the two at Madonna's New York apartment, and several tabloids speculated that the singer had converted Rodriguez to the Kabbalah faith.
Rodriquez has refused to comment on his relationship with Madonna.
For her part, Madonna issued a statement Sunday addressing the recent rumors.
"I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us," Madonna said, "I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez."
In regards to the rumors regarding a religious connection between her and Rodriguez she added that she has "nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study," AP News reports.
Cynthia Rodriguez is requesting primary custody of Nathasha Alexander, 3, and 2-month-old Ella Alexander, as well as child support and alimony.
"Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and protect her children and herself. There's no vindictiveness here," her lawyer Maurice Kutner told the AP, "She wants to resolve the issues between Alex and herself in an amicable fashion."
