Roger Federer: A Champion in Many Ways

Federer starts off the new year with a title

After last year’s heartbreak match when he lost to Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open, Roger Federer is back on top in the tournament down under.

Federer defeated Great Britain’s Andy Murray 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 to take the title. This is his 16th career Grand Slam singles title, and he has won the Australian Open three times before.

In addition to his recent individual success at the Australian Open, Federer has also been seeking to help the victims of the recent Haiti earthquake. Before the tournament started, he organized “Hit for Haiti”, a fun combination of top players like himself, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Kim Clijsters, and a few others playing together with all fees and donations from the event going to Haiti relief.

This marks Federer’s first Major title as a dad. He and his wife, Mirka, welcomed twin girls last summer.
