Roll Over Beethoven, Mozart Has Some News
The debut of two newly discovered pieces of music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were performed on Sunday for the first time in nearly 250 years. The performance took place in Salzburg, Austria at the Salzburg House, where Mozart had lived for several years as a young man. An Austrian musician, Florian Birsak, played the pieces on Mozart's own piano.
The works where sprawled on the back of Mozart's sister music book for keyboard study. The music did not have a composers name connected to it but was later determined to be written in the hand of Mozart's father, Leopold. Most likely composed when Mozart was seven or eight, the pieces show his development as a composer according to BBC News. It is believed that Leopold transcribed the pieces while Mozart played since he did not know how to write music just yet.
Mozart was born in 1756 and began playing the piano at the age of 3. He started composing at the age of 5 and by the time of his death at 35 he had created over 600 pieces of music.
