Rolling Stone Announces Top 500 Songs

Bob Dylan tops the list of the top 500 according to Rolling Stone.

The prominent music magazine Rolling Stone has accomplished the arduous task of listing the top 500 rock songs. The top spot conveniently went to "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, which was a hit in 1965. In an even more suitable position is the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The pensive ballad "Imagine" by John Lennon took number three.

The long list of rock songs includes an array of musicians. From Aretha Franklin's "Respect" at number five to The Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun" at 405, the list provides us with a walk down a memorable musical road.

More recent songs like Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (9) and U2's "One" (36) were outshined by songs that were chart toppers in the '50s and '60s like "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry (7) and the Righteous Brothers' "You Lost that Lovin' Feeling (34). The Beatles made an impressive appearance with 23 songs including "Hey Jude" (8), "Let it Be" (20), along with others.
