The Rolling Stones Concert Film Opens Berlin Film Festival

Martin Scorsese Directed Much-Anticipated Movie

BBC News reports that "Shine a Light," a concert movie featuring The Rolling Stones, kicked off the start of the Berlin Film Festival in Germany.

The movie was directed by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese and shows the Stones playing at New York's Beacon Theater in 2006. The band and the director were present at the festival for the screening.

Scorsese, 65, said the nature of the Stones' music "was something that has inspired me constantly throughout the years," and he had long been talking with singer Mick Jagger about possible projects they could do together.

"We tried to get as close as possible to the energy of a live concert," Scorsese said at a news conference.

Guitarist Keith Richards liked the unobtrusive approach taken by the director and the film crew as well. He said, "We didn't even see them, we didn't even know they were there, and that was the important thing to me."

"As far as I'm concerned, we played three nights at the Beacon and Martin happened to capture it on film-it's a beautiful way to do it."
