The Rolling Stones Won't Sign with Live Nation

Rumors had the group leaving their current label EMI for the promotional giant.

Rumors have swirled in recent weeks that The Rolling Stones would follow the likes of Jay-Z and Madonna and sign a massive deal with promotional giant Live Nation.

"We are not in talks with Live Nation in connection with any record deal," the band's spokesman said.

The alleged deal not only would have seen the group record new music, but also would have brought along their back catalog with things like live performances and greatest hits compilations. In all, the contract would have cost EMI (The Rolling Stones' current label) $5.9 million a year, according to Rolling Stone.

Most in the industry expect the super group to leave EMI eventually, given that they recently released the soundtrack to the concert film, Shine a Light, on rival label Universal. If they do indeed leave, it would be the third large musical act to leave the label since equity firm Terra Firma had taken over - Radiohead and Paul McCartney being the two others.
