According to Access Hollywood, Chaz Bono’s documentary Becoming Chaz premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and Rosie O’Donnell is praising it.
“I think its fantastic,” she told Access Hollywood. She hopes the message of his documentary will do wonders for the transgendered community, particularly to broaden everyone’s thinking about it.
“He’s [Bono] a very brave guy and I think that it will really open up the topic for discussion in America,” O’Donnell said. “And it will be consumable in a way it hasn’t ever been before because we all fell in love with Chastity Bono in the ‘70s and now to see the journey that she/he has taken is pretty remarkable.”
O’Donnell added, “I think it was very brave of him to do and I’m very proud of the film.”
Becoming Chaz documents Bono’s journey undergoing gender re-assignment and will debut on the Oprah Winfrey Network in the spring.
Bono said at the film’s premiere, “I’m really excited for it [the documentary], I think it’s a great home for it.”
