Rubben Studdard Not a Happy American Idol
Being an American Idol has its fair share of downfalls too, people, so next time you plan to stand in line for days in hopes of making it, think twice. Last year's winner Ruben Studdard is in a mess-of-a legal battle with his ex-manager, Ronald W. Edwards. The singer is alleging that Edwards committed identity theft and stole over $200,000 from him. According to the documents, Edwards forged paperwork, giving himself power of attorney over Studdard's finances and then charged $105,000 on credit cards and wrote $150,000 worth of bad checks. Of course, Edwards denies the allegations and has filed a countersuit claiming that Studdard actually owes him money. The ex-manager later filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, so even if Studdard wins the case, there'll be no cash to dish out. Maybe this'll make other American Idol hopefuls more aware that it's not just about standing there, looking pretty, and belting out a tune. You have to be on top of your get-fast money, too.
