the Rum Diary

Actress Amber Heard rumored to be cast in Hunter S. Thompson film "The Rum Diary"

It is largely rumored that Amber Heard from "Pineapple Express" will play a lead role in Johnny Depp's adaptation of a Hunter S. Thompson novel "The Rum Diary". This will be the second film based on a Hunter S. Thompson novel in which Depp will play the lead character, previously Depp played Thompson himself in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". The widely anticipated movie is supposed to begin filming later this year and is rumored to be directed by Bruce Robinson.

"The Rum Diary" follows lead character Paul Kemp as he explores the possibilities of a life in Puerto Rico. Tired of monotony of his life Paul Kemp leaves his job as a journalist in New York City to work for a small, floundering newspaper in Puerto Rico. On arrival Kemp finds himself in a world of despotism and chaos that is expressed with an enthusiastic style of humor that is the trademark of Hunter S. Thompson, along with alcohol fueled chaos and hilarity.

Amber Heard is rumored to be playing the role of Chenault, his fellow journalist and friend's girlfriend who he admires from afar before erupting into a full blown love affair
