Rupert Everett slammed Jennifer Aniston during an interview with BBC Radio 4, when he used her as an example of what’s wrong with Hollywood. The 51-year-old actor claims that many celebrities will always be famous no matter the quality of their work.
“You’ll find there’s lots of women and lots of men in the business that the powers that be decide are right for their business, and they’ll stand with them for quite a long time,” Everett says. “OK, something will go wrong, like Jennifer Aniston will have one too many total flops, but she’s still a member of that club.”
She is only one small star in the universe of problems he sees with Hollywood today. He says that Hollywood shuns older women and homosexuals.
“I think show business is ideally suited for heterosexuals, it’s a very heterosexual business, it’s run mostly by heterosexual men, and there’s a kind of pecking order,” he explains. “I think the position of women is a pretty difficult one in show business.”
He seems to agree with what fellow gay actor Richard Chamberlain said about coming out as a gay actor early in your career.
“I did a couple of films, I was very lucky at the beginning of my career…and then, I never had another job here for ten years,” Everett says.
According to ABC News, Everett wishes he hadn’t revealed his sexuality early on his career, because he blames that for not getting work.
