Katy Perry and Russell Brand announced the end to their 14-month marriage at the end of December due to “irreconcilable differences.”
The stars—Perry, reportedly worth $44 million over the past year, and Brand, $15 million—did not sign a prenuptial agreement, entitling Russell to some big bucks—about $20 million to be exact.
TMZ claims that the hasty marriage did not allow for time to draw one up—nor did the couple think it was necessary. The pop star and comedian were evidently quite confident that even if they parted ways, they would be able to sort out any issues.
Lacking the “Fireworks” usually accompanying the tumultuous splits of the rich and famous, Russell and Katy seem to be handling their break up amicably. According to TMZ, Brand has refused to accept the $20 million—half of what Katy made during the length of their marriage.
Says a source to TMZ, “[Russell] would never take money that [Katy] earned. That’s not Russell. And if it was the other way around, Katy wouldn’t have taken it either. They respect each other too much."
