Ryan Reynolds Lands the Role of Green Lantern

Warner Brothers has cast actor Ryan Reynolds for the part of the Green Lantern, according to Variety.

The quest for the actor to bring to life DC Comics' superhero Green Lantern is over, and funnyman Ryan Reynolds has come out on top.

The comedian, most recently seen alongside actress Sandra Bullock in "The Proposal," beat out the likes of Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover") for the highly sought after role.

For those not familiar with the comic books, Green Lantern is part of an intergalactic police force who fights off the bad guys using a magic ring that can conjure almost anything its wearer can imagine.

Shooting will reportedly begin in January under the direction of Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale").

Green Lantern is the second superhero franchise Reynolds has scored this summer, as his role as Deadpool in "Wolverine" inspired Fox to develop a spin-off.
