Ryan Reynolds to Star as 'Green Lantern'

Ryan Reynolds has landed the lead role of "Green Lantern" in the Warner Bros. upcoming film based on the DC Comics-invented superhero known for his infinitely powerful green ring, Variety reports.

Production of the film is expected to begin in January, with Martin Campbell directing. Reynolds reportedly beat out fellow actors Jared Leto and "The Hangover" star Bradley Cooper as Warner Bros. and Campbell's choice for the coveted role.

According to Variety, Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Michael Green collaborated in writing the script. Donald DeLine is scheduled to work with Berlanti to produce the film.

Reynolds has recently starred in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and the romantic comedy, "The Proposal." His latest plans will soon take him to Barcelona to star in Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes's "Buried," which Variety has described as a dark indie drama.
