Ryan Reynolds Is "Still Standing" After Marathon
So much for bloody nipples or needing a respirator!
Despite all his joking, actor Ryan Reynolds was a man true to his word and finished the INC New York City Marathon, Sunday, with flying colors, reports People.com.
He even managed to joke with reporters after crossing the finish line, saying, "I'm still standing. I'm very excited about that."
After finishing in a total of 3 hours and 50 minutes, the actor still said of the marathon, "It was an incredible experience."
He had been running for team Fox in support of his father, Jim, who has been battling Parkinson's disease for 15 years, but Reynolds admitted that it was seeing the team's namesake in the crowd that really pushed him during the last stretch.
"When I saw Michael J. Fox on Fifth Avenue, I gained about 15 pounds in goose bumps," admitted Reynolds. "It kind of pushed me through the last six miles or so."
While he was running, Reynolds had lots of time to think about why he had volunteered for something as seemingly crazy as running a marathon to begin with.
He told People, "[During the race,] I thought a lot about my father and Michael and the 500,000 other people afflicted with this awful disease in the United States alone. I ran for those who can't."
In the end, it was an emotional achievement for Reynolds as his mother, Tammy, and brother, Terry, were there to welcome him with hugs at the Central Park finish line.
According to TeamFox.com, Reynolds helped to raise $80,831.08, $5,831.08 more than the original funding goal.
Great Work!
