Sabbath Singer Sues

Ozzy Osbourne sues Black Sabbath guitarist for copyright.

Fans of Black Sabbath will be sad to know that its iconic singer is suing fellow band mate, Tony Iommi. According to noisecreep.com, Ozzy Osbourne has filed suit in regards to the name of one of metal's most revered bands.

Osbourne, who sang with the band until his departure in 1980, stated that the band has lost its popularity during the 1980-1996 times when Ronnie James Dio sang and toured with the band as Heaven and Hell.

Osbourne filed with the U.S Trademark and Patent Office, and has alleged that Iommi, the guitarist of the band, has assumed sole ownership of the band's name.

But though Osbourne has decided to take the issue to court, he remains remorseful. "It is with great regret that I had to resort to legal action against my long time partner Tony Iommi, but after three years of trying to resolve this issue amicably, I feel I have no other recourse…"

According to Osbourne, Iommi has been selling Black Sabbath merchandise with the bands likeness and logo after their exclusive licensing deal expired in 2006. It was then that Iommi took sole proprietorship, after a dispute with Live Nation.

Osbourne believes that the copyright should belong to the four band members equally. "…I feel that morally and ethically the trademark should be owned by the four of us equally. I hope that by me taking the first step that it will ultimately end up that way…the Black Sabbath legacy should live long after we have all gone," Osbourne said.
