SAG Awards
After nabbing the Best Actress Golden Globe for her portrayal of serial killer and former prostitute, Aileen Wuornos, in the movie "Monster," Charlize Theron did it again by winning the same award for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The SAG award show, held Sunday night in Los Angeles, often sheds some light on the winners for the Oscars, as most of the voters for the awards are actors; 1,300 members of the 5,800 voters for the Academy Awards.
Theron was not the only repeat winner from the Golden Globes, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" won for best cast and Renee Zellweger won for her supporting role in "Cold Mountain," her second SAG award in a row, after winning for "Chicago."
After a slew of predictable awards, Johnny Depp was the surprise winner of the night, for best actor in his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in "The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl." His win at this award show adds some hesitation to narrowing the Oscar win down to favorites Bill Murray and Sean Penn.
Al Pacino, who won for his role in the TV mini-series, "Angels in America," said he was very surprised at Depp's win, but equally as thrilled. "He's done so many interesting parts over the years that he's got a reputation for being quirky, but he really isn't. He's a fine actor," said Pacino.
On a bittersweet note, on the night of the "Sex and the City" series finale, Kristen Davis accepted the SAG award for best ensemble cast in a TV comedy."We will all miss you so much," said Davis.
HBO earned four other awards including a second year win as best cast in a drama for "Six Feet Under;" Meryl Streep for best actress in a TV movie or mini-series in "Angels in America;" and Frances Conroy was named best actress in a drama for HBO's "Six Feet Under."
Other winners included Tony Shalhoub for best actor in a TV comedy (Monk); Megan Mullally for best actress in a comedy (Will & Grace); and Kiefer Sutherland earned the SAG award for best actor in a TV drama (24).
