Sam Mendes Denies Infidelity
Although Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes’ separation has become public, Mendes wants to make it clear that he did not cheat on his wife.
The director is refuting a British tabloid’s claims that he cheated on Winslet with British actress Rebecca Hall.
After the couple announced their split after seven years of marriage on Monday, Britain’s Daily Mail reported that Mendes, 44, and Hall began an affair after meeting in 2006.
Hall, 27, who starred in Vicky Christina Barcelona, worked with the director on the 2006 independent film Starter for 10 (which he produced) and the two have collaborated on various theater projects subsequently.
However, the Daily Mail is the only one reporting the rumor. Sources have reported that the split wasn’t due to infidelity, but career related issues mainly on Winslet’s part.
Allegedly, Mendes found his wife to be “overbearing” while they filmed Revolutionary Road together in 2007. After years of arguing, everything came to a head when Winslet agreed to shoot the miniseries Mildred Pierce in New York, although the family resides in London. Mendes refused to move.
According to a source, "Kate told Sam, 'Your career is not more important than mine.'"
The couple has a son together, Joe, 6, and Winslet has a daughter, Mia, 9 from a previous marriage.
