Sandra Bullock Trumps Pattinson
New Moon is facing competition going into this weekend's box office numbers competition.
On Thanksgiving, a day known to sports fans for its great football, more moviegoers chose to see a football drama than a vampire and werewolf extravaganza.
Sandra Bullock's "The Blind Side" brought in $9.5 million in sales on turkey day, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while "New Moon" attracted a slightly smaller audience and earned $9.2 million.
As far as weekly sales go, Pattinson and Lautner have still inspired far higher numbers than the football players. After seven days, "New Moon" grossed $188.4 million in sales compared to "The Blind Side" with $60 million.
New movies released on Wednesday all stayed relatively close in terms of box-office numbers on Thanksgiving. "Ninja Assassin" came out on top with $4.6 million, but Disney's "Old Dogs" was close behind with $4.2 million.
Sony's end-of-the-world sci-fi movie, "2012," which has now been in theaters for three weeks, held close to the newbies with $4.1 million.
