Sanjaya Shuts Judges UpLiterally
Sanjaya Malakar might be America's favorite, but everyone knows he is not the most talented. The fact that he is still in the competition seems to have finally gotten to the judges, Tuesday, as they only offered a few words before shutting up.
Sanjaya, sans faux hawk, performed Tony Bennett's Cheek to Cheek, wearing a white suit with slicked back hair. Despite lacking the necessary vocals to carry any tune, Sanjaya made the most of his performance by slow dancing with Paula Abdul and crooning (badly) to the audience and camera.
Once it was time for the judges to comment on the performance, they all seemed at a loss for words. Randy Jackson said, "I can't even comment on the vocals." Paula Abdul agreed, saying they were "a little off." Which brings us to Simon Cowell. Looking like he might not say anything at all, Cowell finally offered, "Let's try a different tactic this week: INCREDIBLE!"
Whether Cowell's reverse psychology will work is yet to be seen, but it won't be easy with non-American Idol fans, like Howard Stern, encouraging viewers and non-viewers to vote for Sanjaya for his lack of skills.
One thing is for sure. The judges must be regretting their decision to allow Sanjaya into the final 24.
