Friday, it was reported that Weeds star Mary Louise Parker would replace Demi Moore in the Lovelace biopic in the role of feminist Gloria Steinem. However, it has now been confirmed that the producers and directors have found a replacement already, but it will be Sarah Jessica Parker who will step in for Moore, who had to drop out after being hospitalized Monday.
Us Weekly cited a ‘set source’ that claimed that Mary Louise Parker was cast for the cameo role Friday morning.
However, by Friday afternoon, it was confirmed by the film’s directors, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, to Entertainment Weekly that the Sex and the City star will play the role. A press release was also sent to MTV News that confirmed EW’s report.
The Howl directors announced that Moore was cast for the film back on Jan. 2, but she had not been on the set yet, so they will not be required to go back and do re-shoots with Parker.
Lovelace stars Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace, the infamous porn star who appeared in 1972’s Deep Throat. EW reports that production has already begun, so they had to get Parker to sign on as quickly as possible. She will start filming next week.
The film does not have a target release date yet. Aside from Seyfried, the principal cast includes Peter Sarsgaard as Lovelace’s husband. James Franco will have a small role as Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.
Moore dropped out from the production after she was hospitalized for what a publicist called “exhaustion.” It has been reported that she may have inhaled nitrous oxide, which may have caused her to experience seizure-like symptoms.
