Like other once-relevant figures struggling to remain in the public eye, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is turning to the tried-and-true formula for instant stardom, or at the very least continued notoriety: reality television.
Palin, “following a trajectory more Kardashian than politician,” is currently shopping her reality show to major networks with an asking price of $1 million to $1.5 million per episode, reports New York Magazine.
Produced by Survivor mastermind Marc Burnett, the “TV docudrama” will follow the ex-governor as she tours her home state of Alaska, visiting gold mines and speaking to local fishermen. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Palin’s husband and five children could also make regular appearances in the series, possibly launching daughter Bristol’s career. The 19-year-old mother has expressed an interest in acting.
Sarah Palin has tentatively titled her project Sarah Palin’s Alaska. She has been pitching her idea to networks by comparing it to the award-winning show Planet Earth.
However, major broadcasters failed to put in bids, and Palin is now looking at cable networks.
“Given the show's laid-back nature theme and none of high-stakes drama that typifies broadcast reality hits, industry execs see cable as a better fit,” The Hollywood Reporter says.
Both A&E Networks and Discovery Communications have expressed interest in acquiring the docudrama.
“It will sell,” an industry insider told The Hollywood Reporter. “One way or another.”
