Sarah Palin took part in an interview with Greta Van Susteren on Fox News’ On the Record last night to address her presidential ambitions and the potential drawbacks of seeking the Republican nomination.
With former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and real estate mogul Donald Trump deciding not to pursue a White House bid in 2012, the path to the GOP nomination appears to be wide open.
Van Susteren referred to Huckabee’s announcement by recalling how he said he did not have it in his heart to run for the presidency. She followed up by asking Palin how motivated she is to potentially seek the office.
“I think my problem is that I do have the fire in my belly,” Palin told Van Susteren, according to Business Insider. “I am so adamantly supportive of the good, traditional things about America and our free enterprise system and I want to make sure that America is put back on the right track and we will only do that by defeating Obama in 2012. I have that fire in my belly.”
Although the former Alaska governor revealed that she has the motivation to make a bid, she also admitted that she is apprehensive about the intense scrutiny that would inevitably surround her family.
“It’s a matter for me of practical, pragmatic decisions that have to be made,” she added. “One is, with a large family, understanding the huge amount of scrutiny and the sacrifices that have to be made on my children’s part in order to see their momma run for president.”
