Scott Baio to star in Nick at Nite’s ‘Daddy’s Home’

Nick at Nite is now expanding into more than just repeats of classic shows. The network has picked up its first original live-action show since 1991, by greenlighting Daddy’s Home, a sitcom starring Happy Days actor Scott Baio.

According to Deadline, the show started production in May, but waited until Monday to order a pilot episode. The show centers on Baio as a former television star who becomes a stay-at-home dad to help his soap opera star wife return to success. Writer-producer Tina Albanese and Little House on the Prairie actor Patrick Labyorteaux created the show, which they will also executive produce.

Since Happy Days ran its course, Baio has turned himself into a reality star. Gossip Cop notes that he has starred in shows like Scott Baio is 45...and Single and Scott Baio is 46...and Pregnant. He also has a guest role on Arrested Development.

Nick at Nite is joining its sister station, TV Land, by expanding into original programming, Broadway World reports. TV Land has had success with Hot In Cleveland and Happily Divorced, both of which also starred well-established sitcom stars.

Nick at Nite’s only previous foray into live-action original programming was back in 1991, when it aired Hi Honey, I’m Home after ABC canceled it. This means that Daddy’s Home is the first show to actually originate on Nick at Nite.
