Scott Weiland Goes to Jail

The singer will serve an eight day sentence.

Scott Weiland, former lead singer of Velvet Revolver and current lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, checked into jail Monday for a second DUI conviction.

Weiland will serve eight days at the Van Nuys, California jail, where the troubled singer surrendered at 8:55 a.m.

On April 28, Weiland was sentenced to the jail term after he pleaded no contest to his DUI charge following a Nov. 11 arrest. The STP singer will also complete an 18-month alcohol education program and pay just below $2,000 in fines.

Weiland has had a great deal of run-ins with the law in past years. He was convicted of his first DUI while driving in Hollywood in 2003, arrested on domestic violence charges in 2001, and sent to prison a number of times in the 1990s.

The singer's life is in a bit of a tailspin in recent weeks, most notably after Weiland split with Velvet Revolver in the beginning of April.
