Screenwriter Set for "Spider-Man" 5 and 6

Sony Pictures have confirmed James Vanderbilt as the screenwriter for "Spider-Man" 5 and 6.

Spider-Man 4 has not even begun production and there is already a screenwriter for "Spider-Man" 5 and 6.

Sony Studio has confirmed that screenwriter James Vanderbilt, who penned the first draft of the script for "Spider-Man 4" will also be writing the two subsequent installments.

The fifth and sixth films in the franchise will have an interconnecting storyline that was originally planned for the fourth and fifth film but was cancelled when it was uncertain whether or not the original cast would continue.

Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and Kirsten Dunst have signed onto the fourth film but it is not sure how long they will stay with the series. If they do not sign onto "Spider-Man 5," then Vanderbilt's script would serve as a franchise reboot.

"Spider-Man 4" is set for a May 2011 release date. Sony is also an investor in the Spider-Man musical, which is currently experiencing some funding troubles.
