Sebastian Stan in Talks for ‘Captain America’
There has been a lot of recent speculation as to which actor will fill the role of Steve Rogers in the movie about Captain America. Though there have been about a dozen actors in contention for the role, it seems that the studio is no closer to figuring out who will play the lead.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sebastian Stan is now in the running to become the next Captain America. This choice seems a bit odd since Stan is Romanian born, and many actors were being discouraged from the role is they weren’t of American origin (like Sam Worthington who has expressed interest in the role). Stan is best known for his roles on the television shows Kings and Gossip Girl.
In addition to Stan, the choices for the lead seem to be narrowed down to Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillippe, Mike Vogel, Chris Evans, and Wilson Bethel. Garrett Hedlund is also a favorite, though there are mixed reports of whether or not he is still in the running for the role.
Hugo Weaving is in talks to play the villain of this film, Red Skull. And Keira Knightley, Alice Eve, and Emily Blunt are being considered for the female lead.
The movie is supposed to start filming in June with a July 2011 release date scheduled, and casting Steve Rogers is especially important because of the Avengers movie that Marvel is intending to make which will involve several other superheroes like Iron Man and the Hulk.
