Second "X-Files" Movie Will Reportedly Begin Production
According to David Duchovny, who played Mulder on "The X-Files", a second film based on the series will begin production soon. (The first opened in 1998 and was a huge commercial, if not critical, success.) "I'm supposed to see a script next week. I'm actually supposed to see it next week. Before I would just say that because they told me," he told reporters on Saturday.
Gillian Anderson will also be reprising her role of Scully, and series creator Chris Carter will direct and co-write the script with series vet Frank Spotnitz. Nevertheless, this new film will reportedly be somewhat divorced from the mythlogy established in the series and the first film. "All Chris says is that he wants to make a really scary horror, like a stand-alone episode. I don't think they're interested in touching on any of the conspiracy stuff," Anderson said.
Production will likely begin in November, with summer 2008 a probable time for release. The reason for the delay in the making of this second film has to do with Carter's tussles with 20th-Century Fox, which culminated in a lawsuit; that lawsuit has, however, been settled out of court, and it now seems clear that production will begin soon.
