Selena Gomez will take on a very different role than she is used to playing, when she begins shooting Spring Breakers, which also stars James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens.

Gomez, 19, previously told MTV News that the role was a departure from her wholesome characters, such as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place.

“It's a different character than I have ever played before," Gomez told MTV. "It's a different kind of vibe, I think, than people are used to seeing me in. What you're going to see is more raw, I think. It's going to be raw and more about acting."

According to E! News, Gomez will play a college student named Faith in the Harmony Korine film. She will be one of three friends who are responsible for robbing a restaurant, which they rob in order to fund their Spring break trip.

"She's the little more tamed down character but also still gets a little crazy here and there," she revealed of her character. "She goes on spring break with her girlfriends and they end up getting into a whole mess of things. They're partying and drinking. We end up in jail."

According to MTV News, they get caught up with a drug and arms dealer who bails them out of jail.

Gomez admits she’s “nervous” to play the character, but she’s also excited, since she fought hard for the role.

"It's a little edgy, but it's fun,” she said. “I fought for that role. I flew to Nashville and told [Harmony Korine] I want be a part of it."

Spring Breakers will begin filming in Florida after Selena wraps up her current tour.
