Sesame Street turns 40
"Sesame Street" turned 40 this year. For a show that's been around for decades, the loveable characters and touching themes haven't changed much at all.CBS News reported that 40 years ago, Jim Henson and Joan Ganz Cooney had a then-unheard-of idea for a television show to educate and entertain preschool-aged children. Today, "Sesame Street" is aired in 140 countries, and instead of being the same show aired in syndication everywhere, each country airs episodes about its own local issues as well as showcasing unique characters. When the new season begins on Tuesday, first lady Michelle Obama will guest, and promote healthy eating habits in the muppet-filled neighborhood. After all these years, Sesame Street keeps up with changing times and tries to educate children on the latest important issues going on. That is, without a doubt, a recipe for success for many years to come.
