MGM has tapped Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon to helm a remake of 1983's computers-could-destroy-the-world thriller War Games .
According to Cinema Blend, the original film, directed by John Badham and starring Ally Sheedy and a pre- Ferris Bueller Matthew Broderick, finds two young adults accidentally getting wrapped up in secret military operations after innocently playing around and hacking into a governmental computer.
Their presumed game play turns out to be affecting real life, and World War III panic sets in.
The film was a modest hit, grossing $79 million, according to Imdb.
Cinema Blend reports that there were rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio's production company flirting around with the idea of a remake a couple of years ago, but nothing amounted from it.
Gordon's background in gaming, after helming the documentary The King of Kong , convinced MGM that he was the right guy for the job.
Deadline notes that the "level of sophistication with video games and the Internet in the digital age opens a wealth of possibilities" for the director to explore.
Meanwhile, the studio is attempting reboot domination, having greenlit remakes of Robocop and Carrie , Deadline reports.
