Seth Rogen/James McAvoy Cancer Dramedy Picked Up by Summit

You'll laugh, you'll cry,..

The script formerly known as I'm With Cancer has been picked up by Summit Entertainment, says The Hollywood Reporter. The project is a comedy-drama starring James McAvoy as a young man who contracts cancer, with Seth Rogen co-starring, I presume as the man's best friend, though it'd be interesting to see him as a doctor. Rogen could possibly use a dramatic breakout role, a la Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler.

The script was written by Will Reiser, who was inspired to write it after surviving his own battle with cancer (so... spoilers?). He will be pulling double duty as the executive producer of the film. No further story details were revealed other than the basic story premise. Jonathan Levine, director of The Wackness and the upcoming Warm Bodies, will also be directing this film, which co-stars Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Summit Entertainment president of production, Erik Feig said of the script, "It's rare to find a script that has you laughing and crying in equal measure or a cast and director as perfectly suited to get the tone of this unique and moving film as perfectly right."

The film begins production in Vancouver later this month, which suggests a fall release. If this film's as good as Feig says it should be (and, let's face it, studio execs rarely have more taste than sheer luck), could we be seeing one of next year's Oscar contenders?
