Seven More Drug Charges for Doherty

Rockstar Pete Doherty's dependence on drugs has led to seven new charges on top of the previous two.

Troubled rockstar Pete Doherty, 26, has been charged with seven counts of drugs possession following his latest arrest. The Babyshambles frontman will appear before the Thames magistrate's court tomorrow on fresh charges following two previous drugs-related arrests.

Doherty is accused of carrying heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis after being detained at two addresses in Clapton in December and January. He was warned he would be sent to prison if he breached a community service order after admitting another seven charges of possessing drugs including crack in January. The order requires him to have monthly checkups and attend a drug rehabilitation center.

"You must submit to treatment with a view to ending your dependency on drugs," magistrate Ann McLaughlin told him.

A week later, Doherty told Channel 4 that he had given up drugs for good. "I want to start a drug-free life," he said. "I wasn't much of a junkie anyway."

The former Libertines singer spent two weeks on remand in Pentonville Prison earlier in the year, after two arrests in one day on drugs charges.
