Sex and the City Beating Out "Indy"

Sex and the City has already taken in more than twice as much as "Indiana Jones" has in only its second weekend.

Sex and the City beat out the reigning champ at the box office already this weekend.

Running up against Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the four fashionistas were able to pull in more than twice as much on Friday alone. Yesterday the four ladies pulled in $26.9 million in ticket sales while Jones was only able to pull in $12 million on its second weekend in the box office, reported Reuters.

Dan Fellman, president of Warner Bros. domestic distribution, said that he didn't wish to make a forecast about what the movie could make this weekend, but he did say that it has already made as much as he hoped that it would make for the three-day weekend.

"We're absolutely thrilled with the number," Fellman told Reuters. "This is just amazing."

Sex and the City is a sort of last hurrah for New Line Cinema which was recently downsized to a division of Warner Bros by Time Warner after years of losses. It's also to be a saver for Warner Bros. with their recent flop in the form of Speed Racer.

There were wonders as to how the film could do without any, or very few, male viewers in the audience. Warner Bros. is to release the demographic data on Sunday.

In the meantime, Jones has taken in $183 million since May 22 and is to follow Iron Man as the second film this year to take in more than $200 million, when Paramount issues the weekend data Sunday.
