Sex Comes Up Short Of "Indiana Jones" in U.K.

The value of the pound is more than double the U.S. dollar.

Even though Sex and the City reigned supreme this past weekend in the U.K., the four women from New York City couldn't defeat the man named Indiana in the United Kingdom.

Sex and the City made 8.77 million pounds over the weekend, including previews, at the box office. But this was trumped by Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which made 12.2 million pounds in its first week in May.

But the margin is closer than many would expect, given that Sex is based off of a television show viewed predominantly in the United States. But moviegoers in the U.K. were extremely excited to see the film, despite the mixed reviews. Advance ticket sales hit 160,000 pounds in the U.K., according to the BBC, and many movie theaters have added extra show times.

Over this past weekend, Indiana Jones proved it has staying power, earning 5.53 million pounds.
