Sex Whips "Indiana Jones" into 2nd

Sex and the City: The Movie will clearly be No. 1.

Sex and the City heats up the North American box office and will likely dethrone Indiana Jones for the No. 1 spot.

According to Reuters, preliminary estimates issued on Saturday show that the big-screen adaptation of the HBO comedy sold about $26.9 million worth of tickets across the United States and Canada on Friday.

According to Box Office Mojo, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull followed with about $12 million.

In a major upset, Sex and the City has proven to be hotter than industry observers expected.

Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman says, "We're absolutely thrilled with the number. This is just amazing."
