Shakira Cleans Up at the Latin Grammys

Colombian singing sensation wins multiple awards.

Shakira walked away with four Latin Grammy Awards during the ceremony in New York on Thursday.

Her album, Fijacion Oral Vol. 1, won the award for Album of the Year as well as the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. Her song, "La Tortura," a duet with Alejandro Sanz, won the singer the Song of the Year Award along with the Record of the Year Award.

The singer performed a steamy rendition of her Grammy-award winning hit, "La Tortura," unleashing her famous hip swaying movements.

"It has been a magical night. I am happy, so happy for the people of my country, the Colombians who have merited the recognition for so many years and finally have it."

According to an article on People magazine's web site, "During one of her acceptance speeches, Shakira spoke out in support of immigrants who work in the U.S. illegally, 'I hope soon they will receive the recognition they deserve from the government.'"
