Shania Twain Carries Olympic Torch through her Hometown
Country/pop singer Shania Twain had the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch through her Canadian hometown of Timmins, Ontario and onto a celebration at a nearby city park.
According to an article on People.com, “Enduring the minus-30-degree wind-chill factor, more than 1,000 fans cheered and screamed as the five-time Grammy winner, 44, ran onto a makeshift stage wearing a white torchbearer's uniform. After stopping for a quick photo op, Twain jumped up and down, smiled, waved and lit a ceremonial cauldron to kick off a show.”
Twain conveyed her overwhelming excitement over the voyage of the Olympic flame as it makes its way through Canada to its final destination of Vancouver. She also extolled of her pride at being “a small part of the flame's journey.”
"I will never forget this honor and cherish the privilege," she said.
The 2010 Winter Olympics will begin on Feb. 12 in Vancouver.
Twain’s third album “Come on Over” is the best-selling album of all time by a female musician and the best-selling album in the history of country music. Songs from the album won four Grammy Awards over the next two years, including Best Country Song and Best Female Country Performance (for "You're Still the One" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!") for Twain. She has sold over 65 million albums worldwide to date, including 48 million in the U.S. alone.
