Shanna Moakler Parts Ways with Miss USA Organization
Former Miss USA, Shanna Moakler, stepped down as the co-director of the Miss California USA organization on Wednesday.
"I cannot with a clear conscience move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it," Moakler said in a statement released Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Moakler offered her support for Miss California, Carrie Prejean. Moakler told People magazine that she felt as though Prejean was being "exploited" in a media frenzy.
However, it appears that Moakler has changed her mind.
"Since the press conference yesterday, I had a chance to think about what has taken place, and I feel that at this time it is in my best interest to resign from the Miss California USA organization," Moakler said in a statement to CNN.
Regardless of the controversy, Donald Trump, co-owner of the Miss Universe organization, announced that Prejean would be allowed to continue as Miss California and Miss USA runner-up.
