Brittany Murphy's mother, Sharon Murphy, denies rumors that mold was the reason her daughter and son-in-law died

The official cause of death for Brittany Murphy and her husband, Simon Monjack, is the same - pneumonia and anemia.

While there’s no doubt that there’s something unusual that the actress and her husband died from the same causes, news reports have recently surfaced indicating that toxic mold in the house that they shared was the reason for the fate of Murphy and Monjack.

Sharon Murphy, Brittany Murphy’s mother, who lives in this house, calls these reports “absurd”.

I have never been personally asked by the coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mold," Murphy told People. "In the last eight months, I have been through the most unimaginable events, which no one could ever fathom. I have and will continue to be very cooperative and fully comply with any such request."

She is also bothered by these false reports circulating, adding, “It's absurd that this kind of misinformation is being reported by the media."

A spokesperson for the Murphy family, Roger Neal, asserts that the house was inspected as recently as last year and the house contained no signs of toxic mold. "Due to the inferior products used by the builder and sub contractors, the Murphy home had a persistent leak problem," Neal says.

"Simon Monjack [hired] an attorney and filed a lawsuit against [them]. In October 2009, to insure the home was safe to occupy, the attorney hired a well-respected company to conduct a full inspection of the home which would include ... checking for any possible mold."
