Sheriff Says Shia LaBeouf Not Responsible for Crash

Police say the other car in the collision was at fault.

Shia LaBeouf may have a broken hand and some alcohol issues to work out, but he at least does not have to take the blame for Sunday's rollover car crash.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday that the collision was actually caused by the other driver and not the Tranformers star, E! reports.

LaBeouf was attempting to make a legal left turn when the unidentified driver ran the red light, causing the actor's pickup to slam into the oncoming car, authorities explain.

However, the 22-year-old star, who was quoted in a May issue of Details saying, "I don't know how to have one drink," was still found to be intoxicated at the time of the crash and booked on a misdemeanor charge.

LaBeouf's DUI charge stands despite this partial vindication. He still awaits arraignment on the charge, but is currently recuperating from surgery on his left hand at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The other driver and LaBeouf's only passenger, Transformers 2 costar Isabel Lucas, sustained minor injuries.

After starting his career on the Disney Channel sitcom, Even Stevens, LaBeouf has starred in several box office hits in recent years, including Steven Spielberg's recent Indiana Jones film. His previous run-ins with the law include a February citation from the city of Burbank for smoking in an unauthorized area.
