Shrek 2: Tie-ins Abound

From ice cream to Hamburger Helper, Shrek 2 is everywhere

When making hundreds of millions of dollars per movie isn't enough for movie studios, they eagerly turn to movie-product tie-ins, a time-tested formula sure to rake in even more. Such is the case with Shrek 2, the animated sequel to one of the highest grossing films of all time, which opened today. Trying to appeal to its younger audience, Shrek struck up a deal with both Baskin Robbins and 7-Eleven.

Baskin Robbins is promoting its Shrek Swirl, a "green-colored grape sherbet and purple-colored green apple sherbet loaded with popping candy." Also on promotion, Puss in Boots Chocolate Mousse and Fiona's Fairytale ice creams. At 7-Eleven this month, "Sierra Mist Shrek-a-licious Slurpees" dyed lime green to coordinate with the famous ogre.

Tie-ins designed to fit in elementary school lunches include fruit snacks, fruit roll-ups and "Shrek Bellywasher Swamp Juice," while for the discerning cook there is Shrek 2 Hamburger Helper and coordinating pizza rolls and Kudos bars. In an unprecedented tie-in, Shrek 2 also managed to get approval for a US Postal Service stamp featuring Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey and the phrase "Greetings from far, far away."
