Paramount Pictures has pushed the release of the highly-anticipated film "Shutter Island" to Feb. 19, just six weeks before the scheduled Oct. 2 release.
According to Thompson on Hollywood, the move was made by Paramount in an attempt to cut down on costly advertising costs that come with the fall and holiday seasons.
In the wake of the last-minute move, Fox Searchlight moved the release of "Whip It," a comedy starring Ellen Page of "Juno" fame and Drew Barrymore, up a week to fill the now-vacant slot, Variety reports. At the moment, the only other films set to debut that day are re-releases of Disney's "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" in 3-D.
"Shutter Island" is based on a novel by "Mystic River" author Dennis Lehane and centers on a U.S. Marshal investigating the disappearance of a homicidal patient at an insane asylum on the titular island. The film is directed by renowned auteur Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio.
