Simon Cowell Speaks About Paula Abdul's Absence from American Idol

The judge said he misses having her on the show.

Simon Cowell finally broke the silence regarding the departure of fellow judge Paula Abdul from Fox's hit, "American Idol."

"I miss her, of course," Cowell told Extra. He also said that the chemistry between the judges is not the same because of Abdul's absence and that the atmosphere is "different."

Abdul announced in August via Twitter that she would not be returning to the show. She reportedly rejected a $5 million a year offer for continuing on as a judge beside Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the show's ninth season.

Since leaving "American Idol," Abdul has guest starred on "Drop Dead Diva." Keeping with the "diva" theme, she will host VH1's "Diva's Live" on Sept. 17. In addition, Abdul still works on her jewelry line with QVC.

Several guest judges have attended or will attend auditions to help fill the gap Abdul left. These stars include Victoria Beckham, Joe Jonas, Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne.
