Simon & Garfunkel have decided to postpone their summer tour indefinitely.

They were originally planning to perform a succession of arena dates in both the U.S. and Canada in May. Those concerts were postponed to July.

They announced their decision on their official Web site, according to Billboard.

Art Garfunkel is recuperating from a condition called vocal paresis. The illness is a serious condition that affects the vocal chords.

Though Garfunkel is expected to make a full recovery, the duo has not rescheduled its tour dates yet.

Simon & Garfunkel toured internationally in 2009. They performed in Australia, Japan and New Zealand. They also appeared at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden, where they played alongside U2, Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen.

However, the last time U. S. audiences had the opportunity to see the duo perform actual concert events was in 2003 and 2004 for its two-month long “Old Friends” tour.

Simon & Garfunkel’s most recent release is Live 1969, which is comprised of 15 previously unreleased performances from the duo’s November 1969 tour.
