Simpson to Play Daisy Duke

Jessica Simpson will don short shorts for her first starring role.

Pop star Jessica Simpson will play a southern belle in the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie. As The Hollywood Reporter reveals, she has been cast in the role of Daisy Duke.

Actress Catherine Bach made the role famous, and her short shorts and sweet down home demeanor turned her into a television icon.

Simpson has been talking with the film's producer for some time, and reportedly beat out fellow pop vixen Britney Spears for the coveted role. Seann William Scott, and Jackass creator Johnny Knoxville will star as the infamous Bo and Luke, whose antics constantly had them on the run from the towns bumbling, yet spiffily dressed sheriff, Roscoe P Coltrane.

The Dukes of Hazzard marks the Newlywed stars big screen debut, although she recently tested her acting skills on That 70's Show.

Shooting for the film has yet to start, but its release is expected sometime next year.
